    Ordered this for a grandson who is currently into machines, especially excavators and demolition. I know he will have a blast with it. The design allows for realistic functions and it is the right size for his current inventory of Lego machines.

    For the price, this is much more toy than I expected. Yes, most of it is plastic which can break if subjected to enough force, but the design features and construction are as good as, if not better, than any other plastic excavator. First it comes in a nice colorful box with directions printed on the side—yes the print is small. Second, most toys like this come with only an attached bucket. This excavator comes with a breaker, grab loader, claw loader, and a bucket. Furthermore, the first 3 are spring loaded so the breaker works like a jack hammer and the claws automatically hold their loads while you lift the load and swing it over to the truck. Third there are 4 operating plastic and metal hydraulic cylinders (2 for the boom, 1 each for the arm and attachment) and a ratcheting swivel for the cab which turns a full 360 degrees. Fourth, there are two rotating sprockets (the intermediate rollers are stationary) for each of the long rubber tracks (It takes a little downward force to get enough resistance for the tracks to rotate). Finally, the machine has a nice weight balance. Unlike other excavators that easily tip over, you can fully extend the arm and boom and then swivel 360 degrees without tipping over.

    The only issue I see is learning how to attach and un-attach the 4 implements. At the end of the arm is a link mechanism onto which you attach one of the four tools. The tools simply slide on and off, but they slide on just one way because of a built-in stop on each tool. You must look carefully to see which end the stop is on and slide the open end on first. Three of the four tools slid on and off easily. A sharp knife cut off some rough plastic edges so the bucket will do the same.

    The tracks are about 4-1/2” long and 3” from outside to outside. The cab has similar dimensions. The boom is about 5” long and the arm 4” long. When the arm and boom are fully extended vertically the link mechanism is 10” high. With the bucket attached and fully extended horizontally, the length is about 14”.
